Dental Implants vs Dentures
Dental implants and dentures solve different dental problems. Dentures are a detachable set or partial set of teeth that need to be removed regularly and cared for in a special manner, where dental implants are a permanent replacement for missing teeth that are cared for just like natural teeth.
A dental implant is a titanium screw secured into the jaw bone which serves as a permanent root for a missing tooth. An abutment and crown is then placed onto the implant to provide a new tooth that’s permanent and looks just like a natural tooth.
Dentures are a replacement for missing teeth and can be removed from the mouth as needed. Depending on the individual patient, a denture may be full or partial. Full dentures are used when all natural teeth are removed from the mouth and replaced with a plate of false teeth. Partial dentures are an option when not all teeth need to be removed. The result with a partial is similar to a dental bridge but isn’t a permanent fixture in your mouth like a bridge.
Sometimes the patient need will be well-served with a partial denture that’s installed in the mouth via permanent attachment to implanted anchors on each side in the jawbone. These implant-supported dentures bring together the best of two dental solutions, serving patients with multiple tooth loss in the same area.
In addition to providing regular dental implants and dentures, we also offer mini dental implants which are about half the diameter of a regular dental implant. If an implant needs to be placed in a narrow space, mini implants are the preferred method because of the smaller size.
